Just ordered the new Halltech stinger intake. It came with the new SSM filter. I thought it came with the warhead filter for the price I paid. Does this filter come pre-oiled? And if it doesn't what oil should I use? I have the Donaldson oil and I have the K & N oil?
You can use Simple Green to clean it and K&N oil to oil it, although you shouldn't have to do this for a couple of years if you don't live in a dusty/dirty area.
Although I haven't heard anything regarding using Blackwing oil, it should be okay since both are non-cotton.

One guy says Donaldson and one guy says K & N. The filter material looks like my Blackwing.
Have you got any pics i would like to see some good ones i almost purchased one about a month ago to replace my vr2b but now the weather is bad here so i thought i would wait since the vert is parked for now.
Funny, mine came with instructions to use K&N to re-oil, not much in the way of real instructions to install, as though they are necessary, and nothing regarding how to handle installation of the IAT[early model C5s]Since they used the same filter medium[layered cotton gauze] as the K&N, it made perfect sense to me.

Yes, cotton media is a standard material utilized in higher end air intake filter systems. Thus, a K&N filter cleaning and re-oiling kit is suitable for the Halltech, K&N, Volant, RM Racing, etc., cotton media filter base systems. However, Blackwing (Donaldson Engineering) manufactures their filter media from a synthetic based product. Therefore, do be sure to re-oil the Blackwing air filter with the Blackwing re-oiling spray on lubricant.

The original Stinger Warhead air filter was available as synthetic (Remay) or cotton (like the K&N). I believe the cotton versions were orange-colored and the Remay, blue. K&N oil may be used on either type and since Blackwings are made of synthetic materials, their oil is almost certainly okay to use with the Remay-type. I honestly don't know how compatible it is with cotton media, however.
