Default Differential lube

New C-5 owner with a question. Since the 6speed trans and differential are mated to each other, do they share the same lube, or are they sealed from each other and use different types of lube, thanks, Larry.

Default Rear/Trans Lubes

Trans/Rear lubes are different. They do not share a common lune supply.

I'm changing my rear out and plan on using Royal Purple in the trans and rear.

They are seperate.

Use the Royal Purple. Great stuff, solved some problems for me just by changing the fluid to RP.

The Vette runs wonderful with that stuff.

The six speed box (Tremec) takes Dexron III ATF
Mobil 1 or royal Purple or Red Line are popular

The rear diff takes 75W90 synthetic gear oil.
Again pick your favorite brand. I add the GM posi fluid regardless of the brand of Gear oil I use.

I always play it safe here. I only use the factory fluid with additive and change it every 15,000 miles since it only takes about 5 minutes to change with the car sitting on its own wheels in the garage.

One problem wiht the factory fill is the fact that a lot of the diffs are overfilled by 5 oz. or more. Mine was leaking out of the breather on top, so I checked it warm and on a level surface. Drained 5 oz. out before it was level with the bottom of the hole. I wonder if overfilling also has an impact on the actual leaks developing on the radila seal and case gasket??
