Default FLP headers and burned plug wires....

A buddy of mine has FLP headers on his 98 and has a bad problem with the headers burning the plug wires. #7 is the worst. This is even through kevlar sleeves. Anyone else have this problem and find a fix? I think some 45 degree boots would help out but he hasn't tried that yet.

FLP's here and I dont have a problem. However, the number 7 wire does touch the header. I am hoping your LTs are coated though, right?

Where did you get these at?
He's running coated FLP's and MSD wires. No matter how you spin the wire it still touches #7 enough to burn it and it eventually cracks.

I've heard the stock wires with stock heat shield boots are the best bet against burning wires..

Thunder Racing. There are two versions; one with conventional straight boots and the other with 45 degree boots. Just specify when ordering. HTH

BTW, I'm running Kook's headers but I don't know that the bend in the pipe of #7 is any different than FLP's. The boots on both ends of the KV85's grip very well and allows you to position the wire for max clearance. As with any wire set, just be sure to "burp" the coil boots when installing to prevent any shifting.

Number seven is driver's side next to the firewall.
The boots on many brands of wires have such a good fit on the coils that, when installing, they may have a tendency to creep back off due to air trapped inside. If you use a silicone dialectric grease it tends to aggravate this.
To "burp" them, hold the boot on good and tight, and insert a small screwdriver into the boot. It allows the air to escape and the boot is secure. HTH

I had my FLPs on for 3-1/2 years and never had any problems. I was and still am running the stock plug wires.

I was getting some strange noises from under the hood. Then I had plugs and wires changed and the noise went away. I suspect I was getting some arcing. So now I want to make sure the wires are in good shape and I guess BURPED
