Default So I got a Leakdown test done.....

And I didnt have compression on 4 cylinders in my 98 C5.

Now I have to get new cylinder heads, gasket set and intake valves.

Cost with labor is $1912 at $65/hr for labor.

Any idea where I might be able to get the parts for cheaper online or some store??

The parts in the estimate seem cheap and would come with a warrenty but I would at least like to see if I have any options before I lay 2 large down.

You can pick up a set of used LS1 heads for around $200 in the parts section. Figure under $100 for the misc parts and around $500 in labor. $1,900 sounds like a rip.

It doesnt need heads just gasket set and Intake valves which = about $500 ...the rest is labor at 16 hours.

Come to dallas we can get it done for you allot cheaper.
Is the car still driving?
Head install is about $500-700 labor
You will need new head gaskets and head bolts.
Were the dead cylinders on same side?
You could try to just replace head gaskets or.
Pick up some used heads or if you like or Upgrade.
Replace oil sensor while you have the intake off.

Regards
Brian

Sounds high to me. I'll give you an LS1 longblock for $2000 (if you meet me half way - I'm in Houston). Just took it out the car this past weekend. Out of an 02 with 36K on the motor. I'm assuming it would work for your car but you would want to make sure first.

Just to be safe, was the leakdown test (not a compression test) done by a competent operator? Where were the leak areas (intake valve, exhaust valve, rings)? Was the air pressure adequate to seal the rings during the test?

Seemed like a compentent guy.

He only told me that I had bent the valves he didnt specify where the leak was at. He did say that 4 cylinders had sero compression and that he was going to order 8 valves to take care of both sides just to be safe.

Is the car driveable? I'd think with 4 bent intake valves it is not. Also, if you have bent intakes, something else is wrong, or you have a REALLY radical cam. If it was me, I'd get a second test done by someone else, and get more information at that time, like the % of leak for each cylinder.

If you need intake valves, it might be cheaper just to replace the heads all together with another set of stock LS1 heads.

For $2k upgrade your stuff at the same time! spend a little more and get a better cam too! Go to a performance shop that's trusted on here, and they will take very good care of you. You may have to travel to Houston, but it would be well worth the trip!

How can you bend valves with a rev limiter? I've heard that you can bend valves if you accidently hit 3rd instead of 5th on a WOT acceleration.

I would get a second opinion.

Why did you have a leakdown test done in the first place, whats your car doing?
