LG makes a Carbon fiber one. Very nice A GM one will set you back $1200 (if I rember corectly) It comes as a whole assembly. Also if you upgrade to the 01 up style you will need new hubs and a housing too. Not cheap
Yup... not fun and it is RPM's that kill em... Here's the one from my 99 FRC... with 75k miles
Front coupler disintegrated... rear coupler slightly cracked... EVERYTHING else was fine. It even drove this way with no vibrations. It did clunk however when power was applied/disengaged...
Replaced the whole assembly with another unit. Thinking about rebuilding this one as a spare...i dunno though..
How much is one of those ECS shafts? I'm curious.....
Well, mine are at a point where you can start the car, put it in gear, and let out the clutch without the car moving or making any noises at all. You can literally shift through all the gears without leaving your parking spot and without hearing any noises at all from the drivetrain.
That sounds bad. I would check your damage before you start ordering parts.
What's up Steve? When did you do that to your tube? My car doesn't even move forward unless you push it. I think I did a bit more damage than you, lol. After looking at your shaft apart, where do you think mine broke to where it is not even making any noise when in gear.
How much was the new tube and where did you get it? You have a speed right?

Hey man... Happened a few weeks ago. Replaced it with a good LOW mileage unit. The aluminum couplers were not recommended from many shops that I spoke with. Due to vibrations/noise/bearing wear. So, if it breaks again... screw it.. then it's getting the aluminum ones. But, right now, it's perfect though.. ZERO noise. This tube is "quieter" than my original one was when I bought the car. It is a 6 speed with a built rodney tranny in it, with the DTE brace.
Sounds like you did even more damage... See the driveshaft will still spin because even if the coupler is destroyed.. it will still "couple" due the the bolts hitting each other.. that was the clunk.. The shaft wont fall out either. It has a center piece that holds it in place on the ends, even if the coupler is busted. I dont know how it would break that you couldnt get noise.. If anything in there broke, I would think that pieces would be hitting each other. Maybe it's a clutch issue perhaps? I dunno...
This tube that busted was a used one as well. Got it for $500.00 from Gene. The first one is still intact but appears to be a little wabbly. When mine first went, you could move the wheels when jacked up and hear the play. Like a clanking noise. Now, I think I actually pusted the shaft or the studs I see in the pics. I am not kidding when I say that I can start the car and shift through all the gears without moving an inch or hearing any driveline noise. Not good, lol

Yeah man that sucks.. got mine from Brad's corvette parts. The wobbly thing is like how mine was when I pulled it out.. You could wobble the input shaft and it would clank when you spun it back and forth. So we took it apart..
Anyone have an idea what an ECS driveshaft with u-joints costs? I sent an e-mail to ECS several days ago inquiring but have not received a reply back..

Hi Steve,
The driveshaft parts are $895 + shipping, so far I have not had any issues with one. They have been used for about 8 months now on cars as fast as 9.33.
