I have about 1500 miles on my new clutch and about two weeks ago when I slip the clutch it would make this high pitch squeal. It usually only did this when the car was cold and after it warmed up you would hear it. But now this week I hear it anytime I slip the clutch.
Is these normal for a heavy duty clutch?
If not what can I do to fix it?
There is nothing like driving through a parking lot with everyone looking at your ride, except when they are trying to find out what that terrible noise is.
Is it a CarTek clutch? My new CarTek began making a brief squeeling noise when starting from a stop at about 1,200 miles. Annoying as hell! And definately creates unwelcome attention! I found it would go away for a day or two if I went out and launched it really hard a few times (as in break the tires loose -- as if drag racing). It seemed to like a little abuse. It finally went away at about 5,000 miles.
I'm betting it's a Spec clutch. I have a Spec and it does the exact same thing (I've head from others that theirs does it as well). Mostly when it's cold...but still occasionally when it's warmed up. Between the squeeling clutch and the squeeking-*** suspension, I'm embarrased to drive the car in public.
My girlfriend asked the other day..."How come your car makes so many horrible noises? I thought the Z06 was supposed to be a high-end car?....this thing sounds like a piece of ****." (I'm inclined to agree sometimes)
my tex did the same thing. i talked to pete about it and he said it was normal. to get rid of it bring your rpms up and dump it in second. it works like a charm. he basically told my it was dust from the pucks that was accumalating because i wasn't driving it hard enough.

I believe it. I remember asking my tuner how to break in my Exedy twin and he said to wait until I reached the end of his street before going WOT. lol.
I have tried a couple of times getting on it pretty good in both 1st and 2nd. Its a little better, but still there. I have not gotten it back to the track yet.
well here it is end of April and I have been to the track a couple of times now, done a handfull of good launchs but I still have the squeal from the clutch. I am pretty sure its not clutch dust anymore.

Same issue here.... my experience is that it's a great performing clutch but a noisy one at that. Kind of sounds like a sea lion bark
I have the same problem with my Textralia in my C6. The six puck clutch plate looks like a SPEC stage 5. I talked to Peter and he said to slip the clutch at high RPM in a high gear. This all sound like BS to me.
If you do this to much something will break.
I have about 2200 miles on the Textralia and it is getting more chatter the more I drive . I drove to and from BG for the C5/C6 Bash last week and the stop & go part of the drive was not fun because of the clutch.
This all reassures me that my Stocker Z06 clutch is a nice replacement for my LS1 clutch. Nothing like Gm original parts I guess.... All these aftermarket clutches have problems.

If you are stock or lightly modified that is a good solution, but many on this forum are pushing well over 500 rwhp and have no choice but to go with an aftermarket clutch. A stock ZO6 clutch would not stand up to that power, drag radials and or track events for long before is starts slipping....

You nailed it, that is what it sounds like. Other than that it has been a perfect clutch. No Chatter, Near Stock Driveablity, Holds Awesome. Squeal like a sea lion.
I talked with Pete tonight and he gave me a couple of ideas to try. So as soon as I get the car back, I will try them and keep you guys posted.

Thanks
Did Pete ask you to slip the clutch at high RPM in a high gear?
He asked me to do that also. Tried it. The squeling sea lion is alive and well living in my $56,000.00 Corvette. Now what?
I am going to a Test & Tune drag meet with our Corvette club on Friday. I will let you know if this helps.
