Default Rear sway bar Removal question....

Ok, my REAR sway bar is absolutely driving me NUTS with the constant squeeking. I've decided to yank it off and lubricate all contact points (endlinks, bushings and cross bar mounts). My question is, what is the proper method for removal? Should the rear tires be under load (like if backed up onto my ramps) or should they be hanging (if I jacked it up using the center section).

So to load or not to load...that is the question.

I think the only things that needs to be lubed are the rubber bushings. If you jack it up and remove one side at a time, it shouldn't matter if it is under load or not. The end links haven't got any place to put lube.

Please, if you do unbolt the sway bar mounts from the cradle, be aware that the lower bolt is the same bolt that hold the a-arm in place....

I removed mine (under load) and the arm moved out about 2 mm......

be sure to mark the bushing to reference that it did not move in or out.

you should remove the under load,,the links on the ends, it doesnt matter.

Use a silicone grease if possible.

Try this link; it doesn't specifically address just the bushings (it talks about sway bar removal and installation) but should give you a general idea as to the load issue.

Only the inner bushings need to be lubed, not the end links. Done it about ten times on various vettes backed up onto ramps, no issues.
