Default Seat Cushion Replacemet

My seat cushions are starting to go, I can feel the springs on my rear and left side by my shoulders. I do a lot of repairs myself but by no means a mechanic. Is their a step by step or illustration on how to put in the seat bottom and seat back outer foam? Do I have to dismantle the whole seat? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you have to pull the seat covers. See this link: Vette Essentials

Anybody ever gotten the seat foam covered under warranty? My driver seat cushion needs it and the car is still under extended warranty.

You can try, but I doubt it, I guess it depends on who you have it with, it doesn't hurt to try.

Extended warranties do not cover trim and upholstery,
The bottom cushions take a most beating. If your passenger seat is OK, you could get away with just the cushion on the drivers side...
the seat has to come out, Easy job, remove the four bolts and the elec harness connector. When removing the seat be careful of the seat tracks, they will easily scratch your rockers , so protect them with a blanket. Seats come out easier if you remove the top, if you have a Vert or a coupe.
Buying the foam is best done through Gene Culley at Fred Beans, he is a CF supporting vendor. You have three pieces of specialized foam for each seat. 1) bottom cushion, 2) back surround 3) back center section.
The lower cushion is around 40 dollars plus shipping.
Check with Gene it may be less Email him the question and supply your Vin #

Here is a great tip for you:
when you replace your lower seat cushion foam, remove the old foam and cut the skirt off it ( the four sides the go around the lower portion of the seat). Take the remaining center section ( the section with the Velcro ) Put it inside the New foam, so in effect the New foam will the twice as thick where your butt contacts the seat. Once you put the seat skin back on you will not notice any difference but the seat foam will be alittle more dense and alittle more comfortable.. No need to throw the old foam away when it will enhance the new>
Good Luck

Damn, ET! I did mine 6 months ago, and never thought of that. I did save the old seat cushion, though. Do I have to do it again?

I replaced the driver's side bottom seat cushion as well. It made a HUGE difference and my bottom is much happier now!

As ET stated, you can get the bottom cushion from Fred Bean's and it is a fairly easy install. The hardest part for me was getting the seat Bezel back on (where the seat controls are) without cracking it, etc. Good luck! Definitely worth the time & $$$.

He is out of the original GM warranty, and his problem is the foam, not the seat skin.

Do you know anything about converting standard seats to sport? I have heard it can be done with new sport foam and covers but am unsure what needs to be done to the frames.
Thanks

no frame change, just new foam and covers needed to convert from std to sport seat.

I zip tied a Cloth baby diaper on top of the springs to stop the wire from going thru the foam,
Take a new cloth baby diaper lay it on top of the wires fold the sides over the last wire on each side cut several slits to run small zip tie through. Zip tie and your done.
The diaper will help the foam from splitting in theory.
I did this a few mos ago when I did my seat cover's and foam replacement. I let you know in a year if it worked.
Below is a pic a bad one but you will get the idea.

I had the original covers replaced under warranty but even then they didn't replace the foam and about a year later the bolster poked it's ugly head through the cover. I suggest if you do replace the foam you should cover the bolster with indoor/outdoor carpet like shown in the VE website.
