I'm telling you that AFTER we added the XR1 Race pipe setup and a Volant CAI, my 99M6 Coupe only made 296HP and 301#ft. torque.

I installed LGM LTs, SLP 3inch Cats, a custom Xpipe and Stingers, LS6 intake and a shaner TBody and made 335HP and 353#ft. torque with an LS1Edit tune.

Then with a heads/cam packages and the LGM LTs, SLP 3inch Cats, a custom Xpipe and Stingers, LS6 intake and a shaner TBody I laid down 375/370 to the wheels with a custom LS1Edit tune.

THEN, about three weeks ago I went back to the dyno for the Corvette Forum day at Carolina Auto Masters and with a change to the Bassani Xpipe and the Z06 Mufflers, and a mild re-tune to clean up the fuel map, we picked up an additional 11HP and 10#ft. torque. I'm at 386/382 now.

And the car sounds much better when on the hiway. No resonation or droning.

My personal opinion is those Borla XR1 Systems don't add ANYTHING to your performance... They, like many other makers of aftermarket parts are marketing an item and want your money... They claim "Up to" XX % performance gains... Up to, or less than.

I experienced the "or less than" part of it!

Mike

Wow, that's really disappointing to hear. I honestly thought that the XR-1 was one of the best systems as far as power gains (mostly because of the claim on their website that it would increase HP by 10%). Now, just out of curiosity though, did you dyno your car before the installation of the XR-1? I mean, approximately how much HP is a 99 M6 coupe supposed to have at the wheels if everything is stock?? I also have a 99 M6 coupe and I saw somewhere that it was supposed to have 345 HP stock but I guess that's at the flywheel and not the wheels? So does anyone know approximately what you'd have at the wheels on a 99 M6 coupe with no mods? I'd be really curious to know.

Personally, I don't find it annoying. The only time the car is plastic-rattling loud, is when it's cold out (40 or less), and only while the entire car is cold. Once it warms up, no rattles.

It's definitely loud, and definitely gives a loud hum inside the car at 1500-2500rpm under throttle, but above that, and cruising, it's pretty quiet.

Like someone said previously, everyone, including myself, hears it when I get on it.

If you're going to get it, and leave it stock with the cats in tact, it's not bad at all. Again, like others have said - it's VERY exotic-sounding. I wanted a bit more, so I removed the cats, and of course, everything's a bit louder.

Most guys with 97-2000 model M6 Coupes and Convertibles are seeing 295-305HP at the wheels. The 345HP claimed by GM is at the flywheel.

powlison, I was in a similar state to you 2 years ago. Stock 2002 ragtop but wanted much better sound. After hunting down and listening to virtually every muffler system out there, I was seduced by the raw music of *no* mufflers. I put just the back half of the XR-1 (pipes only - no center resonator) on my car and absolutely love it. Can't beat the ~$300 price either. I don't have any interior resonance problems, but presumably that's helped by the ragtop. If you want a free preview, just remove your mufflers and take a spin. The sound going past 5000RPM is fantastic. Even my wife has come to like them, now she thinks all other vettes sound "too wimpy". No problem with long distance cruising either.

As far as power goes, I don't have dyno numbers but there's definitely more, to the point where I'm looking to upgrade my tires to reduce wheelspin. Plus, I never hit the 1-4 skipshift anymore - sounds too good to shift low!

I have had several exhausts including the XR1. Way too lound for a daily driver. I just recently installed electric cut-outs and wish I had done this years ago. Loud when I want it loud and quiet when I need to be more civilized.
