Do a search on Darton Sleeved Block. It's done quite often, Lingenfelter, Cartek, etc, just about all the major shops do some version of it.

I believe the formula is an LS1/6 block + sleeves, send the block out to get get bored, sleeved and notched. I believe the 427ci version is a 4.10 bore with a 4.00 stroke. All forged internals of course. Lingenfelter has a good description of what they do to the shortblock on their site, check it out.

Hope that helps... Good Luck!

i have talked with randy at drm, he says that every year darton claims to have a new way to sleave the block, a revised better than before. randy says they have only done 2 and only because the customer demanded it to be done. he said that with in 1 year the engines were toast. you may want to call him and get the story from him directly.

makes me wonder if one were to have it done if it would be a wise decision to go with MTI instead of darton.

mti uses darton. a very good friend of mine has had several lingenfelters 383 done. his most recent was 3 mo ago, when he was up there talking to several customers that had the darton sleave done, most were having problems... the sleaves were not staying fixed in the block, there was some movement. if i do a big stroker i would just buy an ls2 block and go from there....screw the sleaves, i guess it is good for a full blown race car but you have to decide do you want a true daily driver that is reliable???? or one that puts huge numbers on the board and spends its time in the shop...

im a little confused. if you start with an LS2 block you could make a 427 without those special sleeves? is that the case?

I have 447 n/a engine with a darton ls6 wet-sleeved block. It was part of the package ECS put together for my car. I have had no problems with mine.

I'd just build a 402 by adding a stroker crank to an LS2 block.

I would use a C5R or the new World Products block that should be avaiable in April. I know these are expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I owned an MTI built C5R 427 LSX motor in my old 98 C5 Roadster which was an AWESOME ENGINE and very expensive with the C5R block costing $6,400 for the bare block from Scroggey Dickey and they probably still have them available now at that HUGE PRICE. I would go with the WORLD PRODUCTS block coming out now for $4K which is set up for 454 cubes or call MTI or LPE,etc. about the new LS2 motor that they resleeve and throw in a 4 inch crank to make those beatiful 427 cubic inches!!!!!!

That's a good question. If i can just swap a 402LS2 into my car without any other hacking or slashing then I could just do that block with some nice #243's, and a LS6 intake and big cam and get my stroker

I am pretty sure the World Products Block as it is built specifically for a LS1/6 application, bolts up to everything just like a C5-5 motor would and in response to the other gentleman, building a 402 cid LS2 Motor to drop in your C5 is the hot ticket now for making big power (over 500rwhp) with AFR 225 heads, headers, cam, etc, and that will drop in and be compatible to a C5 with a few change over parts that come with the longblock to make the engine swap fairly simple if done by a pro!
