I was looking at my 2002 Z a few days ago and noticed a very small stone chip in the center of the windshield. It is about 1 mm in diameter and is only on the surface, perhaps 1/2 mm deep. The chip is round and has no stress cracks emanating from it. It is not in the line of sight. Knowing how expensive a HUD windshield is, should I do anything about this to keep it from possibly growing?
When I got my rock chip, I called my insurance company and they hooked me up with a local Safelite shop that used the filler that's guaranteed for life. Because insurance companies save a ton of money repairing instead of replacing the windshield, they waived my deductible. And since I told the repairman that I was **** with my 'vette, he let me watch the whole process. In and out in less than an hour. That was last summer, and the only tell-tale sign that I had a chip is what looks like a waterspot. No one can make it invisible, and they'll tell you that. Good Luck!

It has a reflective material in the laminate so the HUD shows up better.
The HUD windshield is almost twice as expensive as a non-HUD too!!!!
RonJ ...
Its even more complex than that. The thickness of the windshield changes steadily from bottom to top. This is to prevent double images from the HUD. It is also thinner than the normal C5 windshield.
