Have a 99 c5 and oil starved and spun my 445hp ls1 motor at the track and am considering installing a lightly used ls6 in its place.... hoping for 430+ track reliable hp with intake exhaust and tuning. Any other relatively inexpensive hp gains for this motor I may want to consider?
My main question though is what are the areas for concerns to consider when actually installing/retrofitting this ls6 into my 99 c5?
Are there many other track dependable 430hp+ options in this $3-$4k range?
If you have the engine out in front of you, I would swap the cam, timing chain with an LS2 unit, new valve springs and pushrods...A cam will make a big difference and is an easy bolt in with the motor out of the car...... And pin the balancer during the cam install...
If you haven't already considered it, you may also want to invest in an accusump (www.accusump.com) on your new motor. Lots of members in the Autocrossing and Road Racing section recommend them to help prevent oil starvation.
But to answer your origonal question. The LS6 should do well with the right cam. The LS6 heads and intake will net you a few more HP also over your LS1. if you autocross the car then Steve and Chris's suggestions should seriously be considered. They'll definately save you a little pain.

I have considered the ls2 but price per pony sould be less with the used ls6. The question I have is technically what are the advantages of the ls2 and would it be a significantly better/stronger more dependable option over the ls6?
What are the prices of the ls2's?
Any used take outs available yet?
