I Had A 3500 Stall Converter Installed 1 1/2 Months Ago And At Least Half The Time It Makes A Grinding/vibrating Kind Of Noise When It Starts To Lockup. Also, It Just Started Unlocking From Time To Time (too Much) . Could It Be The 4th Gear Solenoid ? I Dont Want To Mess Things Up In The Tranny So I Need Help Fast. My Installer S*#@s. It Seems He Like To Take My $ For Checking It Out And Thats It. He Supposedly Added Some Liquid.......to Help It. Well It Didnt Hheeellllpppppp..
what faults do you have if any? what liquid stuff did this guy put in? the clutch will start to apply from 2nd-up.the grinding noise isn't good.does the car trailer hitch[shudder] at speed? was the car ok after the install?
it shudders right befor lockup . and i dont know what he put in but it stopped for 1/2 a day. my tranny gets up to 210 too. but some days it works fine

do you have any faults??? it should.sounds like your installer put your unit into death mode.it's running at 210 because of no lock up.did this guy fill the converter before putting it in? if not,the converter ran dry[no good],if it ran dry,it's junk now.
"transmission component slipping" was one code i get. the installer TRANNY TECH in miami.......... they do tranny's from mild to wild. if they didnt put fluid in im sure they wouldnt tell me. the tranny runs 185 until it "unlocks". the stall seems high too. its supposed to be a 3000 stall but it acts like a 4000. et's are good though 12.45's. would a lockup solenoid do anything like my symptums ?
how many miles on this trans? how many passes on it? did the tranny shop warn you of the possibilities of what could happen by changing to the looser converter?
111,000 miles on it. the code is p1870 that comes up. it started the day i drove it home. the trans shifts perfect all the time. just the shudder and now the unlocking of the converter along with getting hot is the problem.

1870 is for slipping component,111k,is alot of miles to upgrade the converter on.there are 2 solenoids inside for the tcc,the apply one and a pulse one.i doubt either is the problem.either your low on fluid, the converter is bad or there is something in the unit that's toast.you claim the tranny shifts fine,so i'll eliminate, anything from the pump going back.the only thing in front of the pump is the converter.the high temp is from slippage.the shudder is from the clutch trying to apply, once it does it won't stay locked.it's either not stayting locked due to low pressure[but you say it shifts ok] or there is something toasted in the converter or the passage way in the valvebody is clogged by something[clutch material from the clutches,etc.].i don't know if the fluid was changed when the converter was changed, but with 111k on it,the clutch abrasives had to be floating in the fluid[kept the tranny shifting].but once again, you say the tranny shifts fine.so i'll eliminate the unit itself.
Thank You For All Your Help...
The Tranny Does Shift Perfect
Would Just Changing The Fluid Help ? ( They Were Paid To Change It - But Who Knows )
Thanks Again !!!!!
no,the converter is probably shot.i don't know what happened with the install, but the converter probably ran dry.your fault [1870]is a mechanical slip with the converter and the clutch debris is probably in the tranny now.i will tell you though that once this fault sets, you will run at full line pressure.i would pull the pan.if you find gray debris in it,the game is over,if you find brass in the pan,it's probably peices of the stator shaft bushing[the stator is in between the impeller and turbine in the converter.the stator stays locked until what they call vortex[lock up]then it unlocks.if the stator stays locked the car will act like it has a clogged converter at speed.if the stator never locks the car will take a long time to come up to speed due to the lack of torque multiplication.
in my opinion,i would drop the pan and see what's inside.
