I have a 97 vette with an A4, 2.73 gear. I'm considering changing the gear to 3.73. As of right now the motor is bone stock, with the exception of Borla stingers. Would you recomend changing the torque converter while its tore down, and they are right there? If so what kind of converter and what stall? The car is mostly driven on the weekends, its not a daily driver. Would like to keep it street friendly as possible.

i just did this swap 2 weeks ago, went from 2:73 to 3:73 and did a 3600 stall. and upgraded half shafts. if you plan to race i am told the half shaft upgrade is a must 300 dollar ins . cant wait to see what it will do @ the track but i have to tell you its like a brand new car, if i knew this would have done first before anything! now have to get a new set of tires the factory emts just wont do now
If you have any thought about changing the t/c, do it NOW, when you have the car apart to swap the rear carrier - otherwise, if/when you later decide to swap the t/c, you end up REPEATING the same work - when you swap the rear carrier, it is just another 1 hour (approx) process to change the t/c - do it now.
As for which one, I've got a 2001 that had 2.73's - I upgraded to 3.73's and I put in a Yank SS3200 stall - I can't tell you how it drives since I just did it and there is LOTS of snow (and did I mention cold) here - I'm told however that w/ 3.73's and the SS3200, it should feel almost like stock and not loose -
Mine's a daily driver also, but I want to be able to go fast NOW! I'd recommend either the Yank SS3200 or maybe the SS3600, but unless you are planning other mods later, the SS3600 might be a little sloppy.

Thanks for all your advice!
If they are going to replace the diff then yeah u minus well swap the converter. I did the same thing with my car, but I went with 3.42's. I installed a SY3500 TC. The difference in performance is night and day. Although this converter is very loose with the power I am making and the type of driving I do. I am going to swap out this converter for either a 2800 or 3000 with a STR of 2.0. This should tighten up the looseness I have. I have heard some good reviews from fuddleracing.com, the are over on the ls1tech.com board. I am going to have them make my converter for me.
www.converter.cc is Yank's website. I'd go with a SS3200 if you plan on keeping the car as it. The SS3600 will allow you room to grow if you plan on doing a cam, etc.. I had the SS4000 and it was a great converter!
talk to john at fuddle racing. his converters are just as good as yank's. but they have a better warranty, better customer service and are much cheaper. put the money you save by buying a fuddle toward your hardened output shaft upgrade.
