Ok I decided to change the fuel filter in my 99 coupe. I dont understand the very first step in the instructions, "relieve the pressure in the fuel line at the rail"???? How do you do that??? Please help me out. Oh one more question, What is the best fuel filter to get or does it matter? Thanks!!

If you take off the plastic valve cover on the driver's side, you will see a fuel rail running foward with lines running off to each fuel injector. On the front of this, there is a cap that looks like one on a tire valve stem. If you take off this cap, and depress the needle inside (just like a tire), fuel will come out since that line is pressurized. I have a fuel pressure tester which screws onto that valve and has a bled line coming off the gauge so I can bleed the pressure off without spraying fuel onto the engine.
Not sure if it matters on the filter. FYI, AMSOIL now carries Wix fuel filters for the C5/Z06. Part number for the 99 is 33737. Ordering info in my sig.
I just used the GM replacement. Snap it out, snap it in. BTW my car had 56,000 when I changed it and no crap came out when I shook it. Either the previous owner already did it, or the gas that was used was clean.
Even if you relieve the pressure, it is best to change it after the car has been sitting for a while so there is no pressure built up. Not that much gas comes out when you change it, I was surprised.

I changed mine for the helluva it during this current project. Nothing but clean fuel coming out after 35K miles.
