Default First Mod - Vortex Intake?

I've had my car for 8 months and I think it's time to step up to the plate and do my first mod. I think I've chosen do go with the Vortex Cold Air Intake, it seems like good bang for the buck. I just don't know which one:

THE VORTEX RAMMER COLD AIR SYSTEM 97-01 VETTE
Vortex Rammer Cold Air Intake: Vortex Rammer Carbon Fiber Look
97-01 Vortex Rammer Cold Air System, Carbon fiber
97-01 Vortex Rammer Cold Air System & Power Duct Combo

What are the differences? What all do I need to order?

Thanks- AS you can see I'm new to this!

Carolina C5,

Good choice on the vortex. I choose the black box, just personal preferance, I liked the OEM like look. The clear is the most popular, its good for checking the condition of the filter. The Carbon fiber is a personal taste thing, I personally don't like it unless other engine parts are carbon fiber too

These are all visual differences. I would go for the black one as well.

I don't have the Vortex (got the carbon fiber mag and polished aluminum tric from Halltech), but I've seen plenty of them on c5's. I'd recommend the black since the clear ones appear dirty and scratched after they age a bit. I suppose with better care and maintenance the clear ones will age more gracefully. Enjoy!

Thanks for the help. Do I need to worry about rain with the vortex? Also, what is invloved with the install. Easy enough for a rookie to do?

Thanks,
Tom

CarolinaC5,

The install is fairly easly... you will need a drill for the holes in shroud, and a box cutter or dremel like tool to cut the square opening. Water - I'm not that woried... and you have the new design intake manifold, which to my knowledge has never had a hydrolock.

I just ordered a Vortex too. I'm planning on installing it myself as well. From the looks of it, its just a matter of cutting a large square from the radiator shroud and plopping the Vortex in. Hopefully its as easy as it looks and gives me a needed boost in power.
