Is there any programming required with a bigger converter to compensate for the added slippage?
I've heard a number of different responses, some say yes and some say no. If there is some programming required, what parameters would the settings be at with LS1 edit?
Any replies would be appreciated.
Thanks
To minimize the slippage with a big T/C program your part throttle shift points to upshift at lower speeds and lockup in OD sooner (35-40 MPH).
It's not NEEDED, but I'd recommend it. I've drove my car after a converter swap before and after tuning and it made a nice difference. If you were to drive my car you'd know that I had a high stall, but would never think it's a 4400.
Thanks guys,
how much sooner should I set the upshifts? Would 5 or 10 mph be too much, or should it be a higher or lower amount based on the size of the converter?
Thanks

How much sooner depends on how loose your T/C is and the gear ratio you are running. You can't just go by the stall speed of the T/C, the design of the T/C is very important. A T/C can be designed to be loose or tight. A bigger gear ratio will also effect how loose a T/C will feel & perform. If I were unhappy with the loosenes of my T/C I would first lower my part throttle shift points by 5 MPH. If I was still unhappy I would go lower in 2 MPH intervals untill I got the results I liked best.
FWIW, I made more changes changes at lower TPS than at higher TPS. The idea was too make the converter less noticeable at lower throttle positions by upshifting quickly. This strategy works well with bigger gears, less so with smaller gears. It'll take a some fine tuning. You might be surprised at the difference small changes can have at lower speeds/TPS.
