Hopefully some one has had this happen. 03 z06 with 10,000 mi, moved out of shop the other day and went to apply the e-brake. It would not lock into place? The lock button still has tension on it when you press it but will not lock in place It has always acted a little unusual when releasing it. Before when I pressed the button to release it would lower 3/4 of the way down and stop, I had to release the button and press again to get it to lower fully. Any help appreciated!
Still under warranty??? take it to the dealer.
The ratcheting mechanism between the seat and the console can often get gummed up . Often the fix is to dissassemble, clean and re lubricate.
But once it is apart you will know whether that is the case or the mechanism needs replacement.
If you are going to try and fix it yourself , I can send you a word document on how to clean and adjust it, complete with photos that I saved from a previous Forum post.
that would be great if you have it. I looked at the stuff on adjusting the E-brake at the back wheels and that seems straight forward. Thanks again
It is NOT straight forward. I have my entire e-brake taken apart. There is no "adjusting screw" in there. There is a notched "wheel" which doesn't actually turn, though. Matter of fact, I can't get the thing back together. Maybe there is a special tool?

The notched "wheel" you are referring too is the adjusting screw. You should be able to rotate the notched wheel to adjust the clearance between the drum and parking brake shoe.

RonJ ...
Thanks Ron. Behind my adjusting wheel is a small silver bracket with a protruding "v" that locks into the start wheel's teeth, preventing it from moving. I don't see that bracket behind yours in the picture.
Mine looks just like Rons.
I sprayed it with some power blaster and let it soak for a couple days.
Then I used a slotted screw driver and a hammer and gently tapped it watching which way the shoes moved as the star wheel turned...
Be very careful to make a few notch adjustments at a time... If you spread the shoes even 2 clicks too far the rotor will go on . not turn freely and then be a PITA to get off.... for further adjustment.
