rear differential. Need to replace this piece on a 1999 FRC as one of the studs has been rung off. Has anyone done this and can provide any guidance? Do the differential and trans have to be separated and or the half shafts removed? This is the mount that appears to be rubber with 2 studs thru it that extends down thru the rear cross member. Thanks for any help on this.
should be able to drop the rear suspension cradle and replace this -
Dropping the rear cradle involves removing the 1/2 shafts (easy) and removing the shocks where they bolt to the frame -
do a search for CajunDude's homepage link and writeup for his installasion of the DTE brace, and you will find instructions for removing the cradle. Follow these, and its no problem.
Should be very easy, shouldn't have to remove anything else. My guess is less than an hour. There is two bolts on top into the diff housing, and the two coming down that you are already familiar with. Simply remove all the bolts and nuts then jack the rear diff up just a bit and the mount will come right out. Best I remember it takes less than an inch to get it out. I can snap a closeup photo of the mount on a M12 if you want to see one. Just let me know!
Ah yes..........this one
I haven't tried it yet, but I would try the mount removal 1st.........lowering the cradle will work for sure
Good luck Gene, I also PM'd Mike
Hey Steve. That's the one. Mike and I put the new mount in this afternoon. Took about and hour. Didn't need to raise the rear that much to get the old one out and the new one in. Thanks for your help with this and we will see you and Julie at Waterside.
