Don't know what version of the letter you got, but it is not the same recall for everyone, especially the 6-speed cars. Maybe your dealer is one that does not have the latest information. Ask your dealer if they have recall 4006C.
I just got the recall reminder also. It states that they have changed the procedure, “we disable the steering column lock” is this for 6 speed? Previously it was only for the autos

Thanks I'll look for a dealer who has the latest.
My 97 is a 6 speed.

Just got the notice from GM about the column lock. It makes sure to state that its not a recall but that my car may have this problem. Gee thanks GM, just a little late. I already got stranded last year when it locked up on me and had to tow the car to a dealer. Then the dealer banged me over $800 to fix. Luckily GM refunded my money. Boy they messed up on this one!
Got my non recall letter for my 00-C5 from GM last week.
I went to my local dealer this AM and saw the service writer. I show up with a package I made for them.
The package consists of: The letter of last week. The 30 page special 04006C special policy adjustment tech manual released feb 06. Had the PCM rev history. I went through the document with him and explained what it did. He had no idea this document existed but was very interested. I quickly went through the difference between the revK harness install and the new lock plate removal fix on MN6's.
I asked him to set up an appt with the vette tech who I know. He did that. I told them that I wanted to get this done in one shot so I would go to parts and see the parts manager and get the kit ordered. I went to the parts manager who I know. Went through it and went through the matrix. He ordered the parts kit and they will have it for me when I show up on FRI AM.
We will see what happens on FRI. I am hopeful. However todays visit was for a scheduled front end alignment on my Subirban. Unfortunately there were no alignment techs in today....................
be sure to tell the dealer 04006c. got my letter last week went5 to dealer told them have been getting pull key 3 or 4 times simce they did the flash thing, taking in tommorrow to do the not recall. im not wating till it leaves me stranded. to bad gm.

The letter I got for my 2004 Z06 clearly states that the dealer will disable the column lock. Bulletin 4006C shows that all manual cars are to have the lockplate removed and the Harness K kit #89023816 installed.
I removed the lockplate and installed the Harness K kit (original part #88952427) a couple of years ago, and GM already reimbursed me for the part and an hour labor to remove the lockplate, so I already have the "fix" that GM is currently recommending.
When GM superceeded the original part # with the 89023816 number, they had problems with premature failures of the "white" relays in the harness. When I installed the harness on my car, I made sure to get one of the original kits with the black relay and it has worked fine.
I am not sure if GM ever resolved the problem with the defective relays, but I hope they do before they start putting them in more cars as part of this recall. Good luck....
I received a recall notice yesterday from GM on the column lock. I had the recall service performed that shuts off the fuel last year and then put in a CLB. This recall notice states that GM will pay for any repairs because of a column lock malfunction through year 2008, but does not offer any other fix.
I spoke with RICHIERICHZ06 yesterday about having the update done on my 2002 M6. Have an appointment set up for Friday morning at his dealership. I'm giving GM a chance to correct this issue, although I have not had a lockup problem. I think we should all chill out a little, and have a little more faith in the General. Where do you think all these cars came from, a giant stork with a BOWTIE on it's chest? And if they are such a big POS, maybe we should sell them, and buy a Mustang. I hear Ford has a better idea.
I just recieved a letter from GM. Mine was NOT a recall. The only thing that it said is that if my lock fails they will fix it free of charge until 2008! Now I had the origan recall done and just to play it safe I have installed a CLB. My vette is an 01 6mn.

I got this same letter just an extension of warranty
Got my letter, also. Hopefully, I'll get a refund for the $160+ my dealer charged last year to unlock the column on our '01 6spd coupe. COH bypass was installed immediately thereafter.
I showed up at Larry Green Chevrolet in Cottonwood, AZ. this AM for my scheduled appt. @ 8:30 AM. They are a very friendly group to deal with. I had gone in earlier this week with the 30 page procedeure, the this is not a recall letter and set up the appt.
I also went to parts and had they order the service kit.
The vette tech had not done this before so a senor service guy did it.
It took them 3.5 hrs! However not a scratch and it came out perfect.
They even came and said we will wash your car but we assume you don't want us to.
Got that right!
Anyways, the service guy told me that it was good that I brought the 30 page procedeure as they did not have it and that is what they worked from this AM.
