Default MAP sensor replacement - Removing manifold necessary?

Hi folks,

Planning on installing a 2-bar sensor and was wondering if my LS1 intake manifold must be removed to accomplish this? Is it bolted to the manifold in any way?

I tried doing a search but found only links describing manifold swaps which I am not planning to do at this time.

Thanks!

I second that answer!!! You need to remove the manifold. DO NOT get caught in the trap of just sliding it forward enough to access it. If you could see all the sand and dirt that is under that manifold, you would PUKE!!! Remove the manifold, clean the sand and dirt out, change out the MAP and make very sure that you put the little vacuum line on securely so it doesn't fall off.

Sorry to get off topic here but this just got me thinking...

I thought the map was just to initially read the barometric pressure?

I have never seen a fuel table for a MAF car - but I had imagined a 2-D map with RPM on an axis and a MAF value? So, is the map value just used outside the fuel table as some kind of modifier?

Jeez... I am just finishing my Procharger install and am looking for a good close place for a tune - guess I better figure out if I need to change my Map also...

Or could you be converting to MAP only?

I guess I am too used to MAP only cars bear with me here...

Thanks for any input...

I plan on running on a MAP sensor-only (Speed Density) tune with a Vortech kit by using EFILive tuning software. Before you run out and go the 2 or 3-bar route, you can in fact tune the car with with a blower using the stock 1-bar sensor. A good tuner will be able to help you do this. However, a 2-bar sensor will give you better control of fueling and ignition timing above 105 KPa so its definitely the prefered route.

have fun with you procharger
