Default Improve factory alarm with proximity sensor

I am in the process of determining if I want to go with an aftermarket alarm in my 2000 vert. I realize if someone wants the whole car, I can not stop that. I am interested in protecting the gear I have installed in the car. So I am looking to possibly add the following functionality without giving up my factory key fob based memory and window valet functions.

1. Proximity sensor for when top is down, or someone enters vehicle.
2. Remote alert/paging if alarm is tripped.
3. small high pitched horn or siren inside car.

I understand from a few older posts and a reference in the Tech Tips that a shock or proximate sensor can be added to the facotry system at hte BCM. Has anyone done this? Has anyone seen an add on remote alerting system or siren?

Any advice, help would be appreciated.

Thanks

YES!! I saw a post on it a while back! It can be accomplished! I will be doing the exact same project. I got a shock sensor and need the same info. What ever you do, DON"T add another alarm system. It just adds complexity over an already complex system!!!! You will have nothing but trouble!!! Most places make the wiring look like a rats nest!

From what I remember, adding a shock or proximity sensor is easy. The trip circuits in the BCM should be easy to locate.

I think this was the guide I used when I installed my dual zone proximity sensor (to leave the top off parked). It's been about two years but the integration was easy and it works

JoeyG,
I saw this post, unfortunately the originally referenced how to is gone... I think I can wing it with this info and the pics which still come up if you type the URL in. Thanks

Anyone else have any info on this?

I used the above referenced "tech-tip" to add a shock sensor. What it doesn't say is if you have a 'vert, it'll make the "Toneau ajar" light up on the DIC when bumped and the ignition is on. I put a toggle switch inline with the power to it. Picked up a DEI (Viper, Python, etc.) dual shock sensor off ebay for $5 shipped.

Roc, sounds like a relay may do the trick. I can hook it up so that it is normally closed and ACC will open the relay, that way when the ignition is on the sensor will not have power.

Thanks for the heads up!

Adjustment of the proximity alarm is a pot on the sensor it'self I presume? this all works with the factory fob?

Yes, pot on sensor to adjust, and it works with the factory FOB because all its really doing is triggering the facotry alarm as a door or trunk switch would do.
