Default rear differential?

I have a 03 Z06 and go drag racing 1 or 2 times a year on drag radials and it is driven on the street with drag radials. The car has heads, cam, and all of the bolt on’s. I was looking at getting the DTE stage 2 rear with 3.90 gears and a hardened left output shaft. Should I upgrade to the stage 3 that has right and left hardened output shafts or even up to a stage 4 with right and left hardened output shafts and a HD pinion shaft support? At what point do you really need a hardened right output shaft and or the HD pinion shaft support? I don’t want to break the rear by not getting the right options but at the same time I do not see a point in getting options that I do not need. I will also be adding the DTE differential brace when I install the rear.

Thanks
Adam

I am kindof surprised that you would go to 3.90 gears with a z06 and mods. I had 4.10 in my frc and it was to much gear and when going to the track i would not be able to get any traction. I switched to a 3.73 (these would be about the same as your stock gearing because of you mn12 trans) I think it would be safe to just have to long shaft changed in your rear end if you are under 500 rwhp anything more then that then get both side . The DTE brace will also be a good thing for your car and the wheel hop.
BTW I have 473 rwhp and 490 rwtq.

If your not one of the hardcore launch it at 6k guys I would opt for the Stage 2 with the left output.

Sounds like everyone is thinking what I’m thinking, stage 2. I’m planning on running Mickey Thompson drag radials on 17” Z06 rims. I don’t really want to go crazy and run ET streets or ET drags like I did on the TA. I just want to go to the track a couple of times a year to have fun. For the TA with 4.10’s I ran Nitto drag radials on the street and was fine unless I really got on it. I hope the 3.90’s will be ok and fun.

Jerome with 3.90 gears and shifting at 6800 4th gear will take me up to 131 or so MPH. I don’t think I’ll come close to that.
