Will this tear up the car?
I have a friend who drives a C5 with an A4 tranny. He put a 3.73 DTE Stage II rear end in his car (hardened long output shaft) and a 2800 Yank stall. The rest of the car is basically stock. Now he is thinking of putting Nitto 335 drag radials on the back. I think that with the bigger rear end, he will damage somthing if he tries to drag race the car on tires that big that will give him that much traction. Am I right?

What year is his car? the pre 2001 have a weak torque tube. I broke mine and i was running street tires.

It's possible... your taking a car that was engineered from the factory and modifying it.. raising the stall speed, and gear ratio your pushing more torq through the drivetrain and then adding higher traction.. it's possible you can break something.. will it happen maybe not....

Hey Noob, Torque tube is what transfers the power from the engine (in the front of the car) to the tranny (in the back of the car on the C5). It is similar to a drive shaft but it has no u-joints (or CV joints) and goes to the tranny instead of a rear end as with the previous generations of vettes. Hope that helps.

How about this, since we all know it COULD happen (the car could get hit by a meteorite too). Anyone want to say if the think it would be LIKELY to happen? Or is he likely safe with that kind of a setup?

It PROBABLY won't happen but COULD LoL...
I'm sure there are people out there running this setup without a problem and I'm sure someone out there who may or may not want to admit it has broken something... It's a gamble.. JUST DO IT!

I'm running on 285/35/18 Nitto DR's with a 3.90 rear and so far so good. My stall is 2400 and I have "only" 401 RWHP. I have the original stock tranny and do not drag race more than once per year, but I do get on it every once in a while

have u had this set up long, would think "only 401 rwhp" would severly cut the life of a stock trans with 3:90's

I've had the heads/cam setup for 5 years on 3.42 rear and a year and a half with the 3.90's and so far so good. Maybe the fact that I don't go to the track is what is helping to maintain my tranny life. I've put 20000 miles on the heads/cam setup and approx 5000 with the 3.90's

Do you use sticky tires at the track and what kind of sixty foots/et /trap speeds do you see? James
