Default FOB..keyless entry problem..dead battey?

Hello all:

Last night I dropped my key fob going back to my place after locking my car. This morning I get up to unlock my car with the key fob, and everything is dead in the car. I unlocked the car with the key and nothing. Is my car incapacitated because of the broken fob? Everything is not working no ignition, no power locks, my cigarette lighter with the cel phone charger isnt even lighting up. My battery in my fob is brand new, and the battery in my car is quite new? What could this be? I have no power going to my car whatsoever

The FOB has NOTHING to do with the power to the accessories (Retained Power)! When you use the FOB, you select a pre programmed memory settings from the BCM and SCM that you have for that specific FOB (ie seat position, radio, mirror, HVAC settings ect.)

There are many people with C5 that do not have a FOB (for what ever reason) and their cars still function normally.

You should be able to unlock the car with the key and drive off. No fob involved. There is a resistor chip embedded in your key that is required to complete the security circuitry so the the car will start and run. But that still has nothing to do with retained accessory power. Even if the chip is missing, you still should have radio, dash lights, HVAC functions ect ect.. The car will just stall if you attempt to drive off.

You most likely have a bad connection at the battery terminals. That is the first and most logical place to start. Remove the terminals clean them, spray the terminals with WD-40 and reattach. Make sure that you torque the terminal bolts to 11 ft/lbs.

Thanks bill and all. After a little more diagnosing the battery green light is completely drained. I checked interior lights and they were not on. I locked car last night and all was well. I check my volts, temp all the time when driving and it is always in the 13.5 range or so...I just hooked up a battery charger while the battery was in the car, and my cigarette car charger light came on, but dim, so its safe to assume my battery is drained, but the car charger negative terminal began smoking. Its an old charger, and im not sure if my battery is shorted or my car charger is vroken. Gonna try and unhook battery and charge outside the car...What could this be...Car was fine, and has 27900 miles...
