Default Differential Upgrade

I currently have the 3.15 differential in my 2003 with an automatic trans. To gain better performacne I am wanting to upgrade. How much of an increase can I go and what are the advanteges and disadvantages. I have seen them as high as 4.10.

Thanks
Randy

i went from 2:73's to 3:73's and a 3600 stall. best mod ever wish i did before i did anything else. picked up over a second in 1/4 times totaly steetable i dont use as a daily driver so can say about long high way trips but i love it. i think anything higher 390/410 is to much for an auto unless its a track car. my friends daily driver went with 3:42 and a 3200 stall and he drives 70 highway miles a day with no issues

Thanks for the info I will look into the 3.42/3.73 mod. I do not use this car as my daily driver nor is it a track car. What I am wanting to try is autocross.

3:73 would be great for auto-x. The speeds are low and you need good get up and go from low rpm.

3.42 is a great gear, plus you can find take outs from the 6 speed cars. The 3.73 is good also.

Went to 3:42s and a 3500 stall. Drives great around town and still get 25mpg on road trips.

I want to find a bolt on differential from a company that will give me core credit for my current unit. Does anyone have any good sources for these units and are the units that have been reconfigured as good as new ones. One of the companies I have researched is DynoTech Engineering. If anyone has someone else they recomend I would appreciate the referal.

Also is the 3.90 ratio to high for a street care?

I wanted to keep a high top speed, so I stayed with the 3.15 axle but added a 2800 TC. It woke the car up, I'm very happy with it.
And I got 186 mph easy, on a closed road of course
