Default Anyone ever replace the rubber

weather seal that the vert. top sits on top of? It's the rubber seal that starts on the bottom left side on the driver's side windshield and continues all the say around to the bottom left side of the passengers windshield side. I found out the part is $180 at Echlers but need to know if anyone has replaced this themselves and if so how hard was it to do?

just remove the old strip and clean the surface to remove the old glue and reinstall with 3m super weather strip glue. be sure to get strip back in place before glue dries.

DUDE! Glad I saw your post. I just had my windshield replaced and watched a highly experienced windshield mech who has and had recently done several C5's - this does NOT look like an easy job - Many, many parts have to come off from around that rubber and they are all glued on.

I noticed the tech used several plastic knife-type tools, etc. also. In talking to him he mentioned that cars with no window frame & removeable tops like the C5 are very temperamental and tend to leak and require detailed installation.

After he replaced the glass and the rubber seal/parts I watched as he watered down the car and found 4-5 leaks and proceeded to adjust that rubber piece and add black silicone to several areas to fix the problem for good - then mentioned the need for the car to sit with windows up & doors closed while the trim & silicone 'set' - so off in a cab I went.

I am a good mech but no window trim replacer...well worth the couple hours labor charge IMO. I was so impressed I'm having the same guy come back and replace the rubber pieces on each side of the top and the entire back rubber piece on my C5, I'm getting some wind noise back there and slight leakage in heavy rain.

Anyway, since you are asking, I'd say that's showing enough hesitation -- pay someone!

Oh Thanks a lot man! I just spent $180, and ruined my Vette for life. Just kidding, thanks for the heads up. I know the basics but I'm no Jesse James.
