Searched the forums for this one but did not find or overlooked it. Lots of electrical info out there thanks to members, especially a guy named Bill.
DIC messages, occassionally:
1. Service Vehicle Soon.
2. Charge system fault.
Started about two weeks ago after I changed the oil, cleaned the K&N intake filter, washed the car. I know these things logically have nothing to do with the problem. Threw this in there for those like me who have cleaned windows one day and find them not rolling up/down the next day.
After seeing the DIC message I started paying more attention the battery voltage info, analog and digital.
I am seeing a voltage drop from 14 to 12 something when:
1. Sudden Hard breaking, trying keep from hitting someone who has pulled out in front of me kind of braking.
2. Engine rpms greater than 2000 in first, second and third gear.
Here is what I have checked so far:
1. Battery, less than a year old, 12.5-12.6 volts with engine off.
2. Ground connectors to the headlights are clean.
3. Belt seems to be tight. Haven't removed it for inspection.
Sounds to me like the belt might be slipping under load or the alternator regulator is slow in keeping up with loads or the tensioner is going south.
Would the messages noted in the first part of this have something do with my voltage drops; Service Vehicle Soon/Charge System Fault. In other words, what sets the Service Vechicle Soon and Charge system messages?
Bill helped me a lot with electrical problems. From his help I have learned somewhat. First go to Autozone and have your battery and alternator checked. They do it for free. Post the codes you are getting and we will go from there.
