I'm in the same boat. Just had my PCM updated to a '98 OS so the tuner can get into the parameters he needs to to do a tune on it after all the installs. I'm bitting the bullet and having headers, 220/224-114 cam, LS6 intake and swaping out the reard end from a 2:73 to 3:15
That will break the bank for awhile
