I recently read that there is a cam or cams that provide good power increases without installing headers. The reason I ask is that I have the Corsa Indy cat backs and I know it will be too loud with headers. If anyone knows what cams these are, where do I get them and what kind of power increase can I expect? Car is basically stock with a Vararam and 4.10’s.
If you're concerned about loud then id suggest getting headers with high flow cats, and switch out that Indy for a Corsa Touring or Z06 Ti exhaust. You really should get headers if you're going to do a cam. Unless you're doing one that's relatively small.

Yes,I do plan too get a relatively small cam. Just want to what works well without headers. Not looking for big gains, but do want to know what I would gain going this route.

If your car isn't a Z06 then couldnt go wrong with a Z06 cam. should get ya 20-30rwhp, Could be as much as 50 though if you got headers to go with it.
And Blown V6, I know I know. I've never ran cats on any car/truck that i've modded But if loud is something that Clayton doesnt want then him getting headers with cats will give him good HP gains and cut back on the noise a little.
Do yourself a big favor don't install a cam smaller than 224/224. If you are going to go to the trouble of swappimg cams install a cam that will make decent power. Look at the C5 parts for sale section. You can sell your current catback and pickup a quieter Corsa Touring or Z06 catback. That will tame the added noise of a good set of headers.
I have not put my headers on yet and have 380rwhp/360trq with a 230/595 on 114 and stock zo6 heads. I plan on hitting 400 with my headers and xpipe-no cats. I have BB prts with stock cats and its plenty loud already. I might look into a quiet catback after the headers go on. good luck

Big lift numbers on that cam, so you would need stout valvesprings. Or you could have them make a custom grind with the same duration and less lift. I have heard of folks getting 400 RWHP with ported heads and this cam on stock manifolds.

Steve,
That is pretty impressive power without headers. If you don’t mind, could you list the mods you did to get there, and where to get them? How is the idle with the cam you have? I don’t want to just start throwing things into my car without a reasonable goal and making a lot of bad choices.
Try a C5 Z06 cam. If it is good enough for the Z06 without headers, it should be good enough for your C5
Agree!
On my 2003, I have a cold air intake, carbon fiber air bridge, Z06 cam, corsa Indy's Cat back, and a new pcm tune. The car is fast. I know many people go much farther in hp, but if I stomp on it in 1st, the wheels can't keep me held down. Any further in hp, would need new tire setup. Should add at least 30hp with cam alone. I have not added headers yet with the same concern of car being to loud all the time.
Without headers, you want a cam that will favor the exhaust duration. That is the idea behind the CheaTR cam. This cam works very well with the stock exhaust, but it has pretty aggressive ramps and pretty high lift so valve spring maintenance will need to be done.
