Default Is this mod worth it?

My goal is to get below 11.5 (assume about 440 rwhp) and drive the car as a DD.

As I have 2004 C5 (MN6/3:42), it is equipped with the LS6 intake. Is switching to the FAST 78mm intake worth the $750? All the comparisons I see are against the LS1 intake. IS the 90mm worth consideration with my future plans below. How about the associated TB and MAF at another $700?

I can get 3:90/4:10's installed for $1295.

If necessary to reach my goal, I would consider H/C mod next year so would the Intake/TB/MAF open up this mod? Just looking to spend the money in the right place and at the right time to get the most benefit

That's a good question. I'd like to know the answer to that one myself. I know a few people that are around that time with an auto. And they're diong it without changing heads. Interesting to see what it takes for a 6 speed.
BTW. My guess is the FAST intake won't help much without heads and cam.

Dyno's have shown the Fast intake is a waste on stock cubed cars.

Fast intake should only be used with Strokers or big head and cam package's.

Switch to the fast 90 mm when you do a nice heads / cam package.

Ed, It didn't work for me with my heads/cam package. I tried the FAST 90/90 combo and didn't gain a thing on the dyno. Maybe it was my particular setup. It's one of those questions which may produce many different answers. I would check with a reputable tuner who can best guide you with a COMPLETE package.

Did he dyno the LS6 intake vs the Fast on the same day on the same dyno? If not it's not an accurate account.

Thanks Spencer, I am going to Vette Doctors on Tuesday and was just wondering. No performance mods this time, just a Line lock, synthetic fluid (dif/trans), oil change, and look into some "funnies" before the race season opens.

How are thigs going. Haven't seen you in a long while.

Ed, I've been really busy between work and the birth of my first child this past July. This has pretty much taken up all of my time, but it is surely worth it. I am looking forward to the warmer weather and top-down driving. I plan on attending a few events this year....don't tell the wife since it will be under the guise of working

As for the mods, speak to Carmen at The Docs. They have seen all kinds of setups and would be able to steer you in the right direction. They tried to tune my setup with the 90/90 combo and it was a nightmare. Might have been a faulty Throttle body but nonetheless Carmen said that the setup was way too big for my car. Maybe things have changed, I don't know. Anyhow good luck and if you have any other questions in regards to the mods just shoot me an email or a PM. Looking forward to seeing you again real soon.

professional tuner - I agree - good idea.

I doubt any intake is going to get you to 11.5. The gears possibly but DD ?? Need to think that over carefully. Lots of highway driving could be a bummer. Power OR highway speed driving - the compromises begin.
Good luck with your build.
