I ran my C5 on the track and the inside pad on the right rear wore down to 1/32. Since the outsides were both 4-5/32, I didn't notice till I took it apart. The rubber boot on the caliper piston had burned away! I had the same prolem with boots on my C4. If I wore the pads down to 3/32 or less, the dust boots would burn when used on the track. Does anyone know of an aftermarket replacement of material which can take the heat? Do the high performance systems (Brembo, Alcon, etc.) use a boot that can take high temps? I'd appreciate any help on this, since replacing the boots is very difficult.
Re: Burned rubber boot on brake caliper (John Shiels)
Thanks for the info. I will check the racing section. Right now I think my problem is limited the boots on the brake caliper pistons, but it sounds like there are plenty of problems with suspension parts to look forward to. :(
