Ok, i've heard alot of good options. I would like help on the best gear ratio. I have a 1998 A4 with stock converter and 2.73 rear end. Is the 3.42 the way to go. I would like to get more off the line acceleration but i also greatly enjoy the top end ride. I'm a daily driver with freeway miles. Also if I change ratio how do i reprogram computer, dealer or hand tuner? Thanks for all the help.
While your car is apart you should also install a 3000-3200 T/C to go along with 3.42 gears. The Yank SS3200 would be my choice, a good T/C will give you more performance than just gears.
If you go to the 3:42s you will lose a few mpg. I just went from 3:15s to 3:42s and dropped about 3 mpg. Also at 80 the rpms are over 2500.
I intend to do a little racing and can accept the trade offs. If you are not interested in racing you might consider the 3:15s.
