Default LS1 vs. LS6 intake

Tried searching with no luck, so... How do you tell an LS1 intake from a LS6 intake while it is bolted in place? I have seen pictures showing the difference on the bottom side but not from the top.

Thank you

there is no difference from the top, only the bottom. The only way from up top is by checking the part number molded into it...

He stated he already knew the difference on the bottom...

12561182...I think this is also an older casting number for the LS6 intake...
2001-2002 12561182(ls6 intake)
2002-2004 12573572(ls6 intake)
1997-2000 12556333(ls1 intake)

So your good...

The number is stamped on the driver side under the fuel rail in the middle. You have to remove the fuel rail cover.

If the water coolant crossover line is there running underneath the engine (from front to rear), it is most likely a LS1. If there are water coolant plugs (two of them) at the rear of the engine, behind the manifold and only a single water coolant line up front (running crossways only), it is an LS6.
Bottom line: there is not enough room underneath an LS1 manifold for the water coolant line to run from front to back. Only if someone has taken the manifold off, cut grooves in the reinforcing ribs underneath the manifold, will a stock LS1 water coolant line set-up work. HTH

BTW, the number that is cast into the manifolds are not part numbers for the manifold. They are engineering or casting numbers only.
