Hi guys,
They always say that the Corvettes that are stored end up having more problems for some reason... and I guess they do. I discovered a P/S leak under my car after sitting for a month (from the line just in front of the subframe...) There are two squeeze clamps on the rubber/aluminum junction and it looks like they're just not tight enough...
Question 1) Do you have to use the GM power steering fluid? Is it just ATF or is it special synthetic? 2) Is this a common point of leakage?

Does your car have a power steering cooler? If so is the line your talking about feed into the bottom of cooler?
My '97 started had a leak about 6 months ago. Mine was leaking from the high pressure line between the pump and the rack. I bought all new lines from Fred Beans and switched them all out at the same time, since I had it all torn apart anyway. I think it was around $120 for all the lines and I refilled with Valvoline Syn. Power Steering fluid. Working great and no more leaks!!!
So you used Valvoline synthetic fluid, and that worked, but what is the GM stuff made of? See, older cars usually used something like Transmission fluid, or atf and newer cars use synthetic fluid..... Can anyone say for sure what goes in our cars? The owners manual just says, "use GM special fluid P/N blah blah blah..."

I'm pretty sure that all C5's use synthetic power steering fluid. Also I had a problem with the feed line that goes into the power steering cooler. It's a hard line that turns into rubber about three inches before the cooler. The rubber line can't be replaced you have to buy the whole cooler assembly.
