Does anyone know a way to bypass the column lock fault temporarily on a C5? I have a 99 theft recovery vehicle that I'm rebuilding and the car has a column lock fault which won't allow the car to drive over 1-2miles/hr before the computer turns off the engine. Is there a way to bypass the lock long enough to get the car to a dealer to reprogram the PCM? The car has had the recall to remove the lock plate and install the bypass relay but the PCM has not been modified or there is some other problem.
Try this. Unplug the column lock or Harness K, whichever is plugged into the the 4 wire connector under the steering column. Short the green wire to the black wire of the 4 wire connector harness by pushing a straight pen or needle through the two wires. (Do this with the key in the "OFF" position) Put some tape on it to keep it from shorting to anything else under the dash.
This will probably throw a CL code on the DIC, but it should make the computer think the CL is in the unlocked position.
Sounds like your "bypass" is not working properly.

Don't short the green wire to the black wire. The BCM checks ECL status before and after you turn on the ignition key to ensure the unlock command was executed properly.
1. Make sure you have a fully charged battery
2. In the fuse box under passenger footwell, reset your BCM by pulling fuse 25, wait 15 seconds, and re-insert.
3. If still not working, remove the knee bolster under the steering column and inspect your ECL harness. If you have a K-Harness installed, disconnect it from the main harness and plug in your column lock motor only. If the error goes away, replace the relay in your K-Harness OR install a CLB AND disconnect your ECL while in the unlocked position (this test assumed your Column Lock Motor was still funtional). PM me if you get stuck.
