Default Airport Fun!

Saturday morning a buddy from work showed up at the little airport where I keep the RV-4...he was driving his Red 2000 C5 Coupe... since I regularly use the runway to get a safe (land) speed fix in my Roadster the pilots hanging out in the lounge asked if we were going to race?? So we did 3 runs down the 3000' runway&taxiway and all three passes were too close to tell.. both cars are "no mods" and MN6, the only difference was which one of us kept our foot in it the longest (these cars gobble up 3000' pretty damned fast!) I think if we had of been at a drag strip and had trees to start the one with the best reaction time would have won the race... way too much fun!!!! :cool: :chevy

I usually get to the top of 3rd and back off at about 2/3 the length of the runway (2000') to save the brakes. So that's only a little over 100 mph but it sure is FUN! I know it's NO BIG DEAL compared to some of the extremely modded cars that are part of the forum... I just thought it was interesting and reassuring to see how close in performance the '98 and '00 were... plus neither one of us had ever been to the track (or street raced) with these cars and really didn't know what to expect!! :eek:

Sounds awesome. 3000 feet is 5.7 tenths of a mile. If you break off at 2000 feet you've covered 3.8 tenths and you should be doing well over 100 by that time. Man, would I love a stretch of highway like that. :cool:

How far down the runway does it take your plane to go to get off the ground. I figure you need to go about 140 or so to take off. I'm wondering which is faster, ever race a plane?

I need about 80 mph in my Bonnanza E33C to take off and I think the RV-4 lifts off around the same speed...
