Gotta give a for the Hurst too, with the softer springs. At first, the wife hated it, didn't like the initial effort it took to get into first/reverse. Now, after a year with it, she bangs out 2-3-4 shifts like a racer !
I can shift mine with just 2 fingers as well, thats with the two springs per side(one large and one small) They are stiff at first, and I hated it at first. But I have put over 20K mi. on it and wouldn't trade it for anything. It shifts pretty easly but very percise. Stick with it, In a cople of weeks you will love it. No more vauge stock rubber shifter
Thanks for all the inputs. As I said, at the track I loved the precise 2-3-4 shifts. Remember the shifter was only 2 days old Never even had to think about it. I'm sure it will be fine. Will see soon enough as the 1st points event is Saturday. Right back at it!!!!
I must be the only one that keeps trying to make it stiffer.
I installed my Hurst 3 years ago. Used the lightest springs (based on user comments in threads like this one). The initial feel was great..but yes it does loosen up over time.
A year later, I wanted that "new" feeling back, so I swapped in the stiffer springs. Perfect once again.
Last year, I cut the shifter down a little over an inch (primarily for aesthetic/ergonomic reasons...I'm using a fairly tall Momo ****).
That added a bit more resistance to it, and I really like the way it feels and shifts now.

It will loosen up a bit with time. Mine did. Also, drain the factory tranny fluid and go with either Amsoil synthetic ATF or Red Line D4 ATF. That also definitely smooths things too. Takes a couple weeks and you'll really notice the difference. HTH
i have been testing shifters for hurst for the last couple months and the best springs found so far is heavy outers and light inners it makes a nice shift combo also MTI racing has the **** it kind of look like a sex toy but it is a little longer all the racers down here have been using it and it gives alittle more leverage did you get the hurst with the straight shaft or bent? and did you use stock ****. i have tested every short shifter in my c6 B&M calloway breathless and hurst also there is a new shifter on the market it will be ready in a couple of weeks and sold through MTI Racing here in GA it is the one i am using now not only is it quite butt also the smoothest of all shifters we have tried if there are any questions give me a call or e-mail me 509 879 8122 or nickyd83_28@hotmail.com
My Hurst has been in for over 2 years and I love it! I did install it with the softer springs, and that combined with the Antivenom shift mod makes the car a pleasure to drive. I got rid of my stock shifter a long time ago and will never go back to it! BTW, I did adjust the stops in the Hurst and have left them in.

Next time you get your car up on a lift, look up on the passenger side of the tranny, near the top pretty close to where it bolts to the differential and you will see a strange looking bolt sticking out of the side of the trans there. You can't miss it, it has a 15/16" head. This is the shift rod detent bolt. Remove it, and get a 1/8" thick copper oil pan drain plug washer that is about 3/4" ID from your local parts store.
re-install the bolt with the washer under it and you are done. The washer needs to be at least 1/8" thick for it to be effective. If its a little thicker, IMO it'll work even better. Sorry I don't have any pics, but if you do a search on zo6vette.com you might find some pics.

Scott,
The mod he was selling for $60 was a replacement bolt he had machined out of billet Aluminum. The washer trick does the same thing for a buck and a few minutes of your time. Heck if you don't like the result, you can take it out and toss it. Alot better than spending $60.
But, I'd bet good money that you will love it, as it really gets rid of alot of the notchiness between gears.
great, thanks for the info. i just purchased a b&m kit, i dont think it'll be as notchy as the hurst but i may do this mod anyways when it's on the lift getting suspension swapped out.
i read something about this mod messing up cags, have you had this problem too? should i just go ahead and install the cags bypass while i'm at it?
