Default Anyone have problem w/ .040 MLS Gaskets?

Looking at purchasing a set, just want to check to see if their have been any issues. I know ppl say to check the P/V clearance, where I should be fine w/ a 228R Cam.

On a side note: I'll be running a 11.34:1 CR, anything that I should watch out for there?

Be very careful of P/V. With that size chamber and those gaskets I was running a 224/228 .581"/.588" XE-R 112LSA +0 with 2.020 intake and 1.60" exhaust, I was .070" intake and exhaust so I had to notch. As far as the gaskets, I used Cometics, had them on and off twice and used them for spacers when cutting the pistons. I have around 600 miles on them after the second torque with no issues. I used AFR heads and GM bolts.

According to TSP, I'm safe running a 228R (.588 lift) cam, and w/ 62cc heads. I'm wondering if I should play it safe and go w/ .045s???

It is always best to check P-to-V.

What octane will you be running? Do you know how much overlap there is with that cam and when the intake valve closes? You will want to be mindful of your dynamic compression ratio. You will need good a tune and to keep an eye on knock.

According to TSP, P/V should be fine, where I'm worried is on my piston height. Without opening my engine, I don't think I'd be able to properly calculate my quench.

Also, I'll be running 92 octane.

What's the difference between Dynamic CR, and regular CR?

TSP told me I should be safe with my setup too. I was, but I checked and found I was close so I notched my pistons. If you hare going to have the heads off why not spend the extra 20 minutes to check your P/V, then you'll know you are safe. Just my $.02 I'll bet you will be too.

You can't be sure what gasket to run to obtain optimum quench until you remove the heads and measure it. Every engine is different. I did three motors from 3 different years and the deck height was different on all three. It's not much different but .004" is the difference between a tight quench that will help ping in a high compression setup such as yours. Again, you are already going to have the heads off so why not measure it.

I have 63CC and was willing to give up a couple of HP to be on the safe side. Im going to be running the stock GM gasket at quench . 051.
Ill be a hair under 10.9:1. With my baby cam, Ill be safe and not sorry. But I wont be shooting for 450 RWHP either.

I was only looking to be at 410RWHP. Just a little more fun, and not much extra wear on the car.
if its not right, gears next year
