The P/L is best in all aspects!!! but, For a 6 speed, I don't know if the performance gains alone are really worth $500... The most noticable difference is in the (A4) shifting!!! You'd really need to check with people using them with 6 speeds.
IF you just want to change the fan temps or rev limit, etc, the HPP is much less expensive & can usually be found used (mine for a 1998 is for sale ($200) & the post above mentions one for a 00 for sale). I see others in the "parts for sale" forum all the time (just make sure it's for your year car & that the previous owner "un-installed" it (returned to stock), so it will accept the new/different VIN for your car.
If the P/L program should happen to get flashed over, by a dealer,etc... you can just Re-load the P/L again.
