is it hard to get 450rwhp with out f/i? i want something that is as reliable as possible since it will be my primary car. i have a 99 vert with a m6. i was thinking a ls6 intake lg lt's cam and callaway honker, what else would i need to reach my goal?
Hi,
a good head and cam package would do the trick. LG has some great packages. You should contact them. Also add a set of LT headers and a good flowing exhaust and you are good to go.
Been there done that. I would not get too overwhelmed by the dyno numbers, esp peak, but look at the power below the curve and the torq. My car only does 460 :o but makes much more HP and torq below 6k, where the 470 cars peak and pass me by. Me learning to drive it after my H/C swap ummm
BLUFF, it can be done quiet easliy, and a H/C car is a blast! Nice agresive idle, pulls like a tank and it is still a great car to drive around in, and no worries about belts, leaning out on top with changes in the wheather ect... I was going the FI route untill I was cam only (small blower cam). Once I drove it with the idle and the way it pulled, I was hooked. Go for it brother

you'll be into it for about $6000 to get a NA car to 450rwhp, thats including the cam, heads, Fast 90 setup, headers, and a few other bells & whistles. And that is if you can install it yourself.
when you say reliable 450rwhp, you start with big Cubic Inch.
now the valve train can be a little easier to maintain.
torque and hp will be there with a dart sleeved block, good heads and a suitable cam.
ya it does. i have been looking and if i can find a short block in good shape cheap i might just go that route. get the block order ls6 intake, heads and cam. the main thing is the a$$holes in CA are pretty strick on smog so i can't have a huge cam. plus if i go this route i'll have a extra block just in case right?

I think the LS1 heads are your limiting component, even with considerable porting. With 346 cid, you'll need better heads and a very aggressive cam profile. You already know you need Honker, long tube headers (non-emissions-compliant), and an efficient cat-back system. And then 450 at the wheels is still going to be tough to achieve. Plus, the torque curve is not going to be very flat. Personally, for what it's worth, I don't think this is a combination that would work well as an everyday, "primary car".
At Callaway, the only way we've been able to accomplish this level of performance in a reliable, streetable package is either with our 7.0L/427 cid SuperNatural 550 or with our new SuperCharged 560 Corvette.

I made 447rwhp, and 427rwtq with LG's G5X1-E cam/AFR 205's 59cc, LG Pro Long Tubes with cats. VERY close to stock drivability I am finding ! E stands for Executive, or emissions since this cam can pass Texas Emissions if ever required..... Not required at this time though.
