I am about to swap out my cam and bought the valve package which contains the upgraded springs, hardened push-rods, Ti retainers and new locks. Do I need to change the lifters? I've heard the stock GM lifters are quite durable and strong enough for upgrades. Anyone agree or disagree??
You can only change them if you pull the heads, from the sounds of your plans it doesn't sound like you are. Make sure you take precautions so they don't fall while you swap out the cam.

If I were to do it again, I'd change the lifters. Then again, I put a fairly aggressive cam in my motor, which I think stresses the lifters more than a mild cam upgrade.
So why would I change lifters? I've had lifter noise, that drives me batty. I'ver been told by many people that as long as it doesn't get too bad, I am fairly safe. Still though, I don't feel all that comfortable driving around with that kinda noise coming from the engine. Next round of engine mods, and the stock lifters are coming out. In fact, that may be the only mod.
Depending on how many miles your car has and as greg_nate said depending on how aggressive of a cam you use, you may want to swap them out for a new set. I had some lifter noise and replaced mine with a set of new factory lifters and it's quiet as can be.
