Default Need Help Diagnosing a Problem

The revs drop too low (about 400 or 300 RPM) & the car feels like it is about to stall (but it does not) when applying brakes just before coming to a stop. The revs come back up to about 600 RPM after I am stopped. It does this every time I come to a stop.

Some of the things I have done, that did not help, are; changed plug wires (MSD), changed spark plugs (NGK), PCM tune (LAPD), replaced the fuel filter, added a Blackwing, use Chevron gas exclusively, and have added bottles of Techron injector cleaner to a tanks of gas occasionally. The car has always idled rough since I bought it new. I have had this problem for a long time, but it seems to be getting a little worse or maybe it is just bugging me more.

What else should be checked?

clean out the throttle housing.you don't have enough air coming across the blade because it's all gunked up.

Here's a stretch.....

You may have brake-booster issues with vacuum. They can really dump a lot of vacumm from the resevoirs when you hit the brakes.

Probably not your issue, again just a stretch.

This is the best place to start especially if the service has not been done before.
Next thing to look at is the idle air valve. These have a tendancy to gunt up over time.
Good luck.

i think i have your answer, my car ran fine- i only owned it for 3 months. two weeks ago i took it out and every stop light/stop sign the car would go from 1k rpm down to 400-500 and than crap out. to say the least it was bothering the hell out of me. i noticed during this incident (it lasted the entire time i was out- about 15miles) my volts were around 13.6-13.8 , it was very cold outside around 20 degrees but i had run the car in close to zero weeks earlier with out any problems. this past weekend i took the car out and wada think i saw... my volts were 14.3-14.5 and not a single time did the car stall! my guess is the car needs a minimum amount of volts to have the computer function correctly....any tech guys chime in....\
take a look at your volts if they are in the 13.6 range i bet this is your problem. now the question is..... is it the battery getting ready to take a crap.... or does the car have a volt regulator/altinator ready to go south...... my .02
