Default Another question on Runflat tires

OK, yes we have been through this before.

So here is my problem. I want the security of funflats without the hard ride and noise. I Know, I know I am dreaming, but I wonder has anyone, at least, found a funflat that is somewhat more reasonable than the Goodyears?

If you want to upgrade to 18/19 wheels, the new C6 GY runflats are a great improvement over the C5 runflats. That's what I have on my car. In stock C5 sizes, most people lean towards the Mich. Pilot A/S ZPs, also the Firestones and Kuhmos.

I've always had the runflats by goodyear so I can't compare to for instance GSD3's but I'm sure they do ride nicer. Guess I just have never thought the runflats ride bad as most of my vette driving is highway.

I hang with the goodyears primarily because the stiff sidewall has saved damage to my $ BBS wheels more than once when I've encountered some vicious potholes here in beautiful Ohio. Maybe a little weird but that stiff sidewall is something I view as a benefit to reducing any damage to the wheels..........

The GoodYears EMT's ar ethe ONLY ones that can go 200 miles flat or
50 miles and 55 mph and still be repaired. the hard sidewall casing and tread necessary to withstand the heat and torture are what make them noisy and rough handling.
The Michelins are repairable, less noisy and handle better BUT cannot go more than 50 miles flat
the Yokohama's , Kumho's and Firestones are all quieter, handle better BUT CANNOT be repaired....

Make your choice and take your risk....

GoodYear GS-D3's NON runflat are my favorite tire.

The other big thing is the Michelin or the other brands of Run Flats are not as wide as the original GoodYears.

Here are the widths from Tire Rack:
The OEM Goodyear runflats are EXTREMELY WIDE for their size. The tread width is even wider than the 295 Z06 tires, here are the specs (tread width)
-Goodyear F1 GS EMT (275) 10.3 inches
-Goodyear Z06 (295) 10.2 inches
-Firestone (275) 8.6 inches
-Goodyear F1 GS D3 (275) 9.4 inches
-Goodyear F1 GS-2 EMT (285, 19 inch diameter) 9.2 inches

Hey there,
Have to go with the Michelins Pilot Sport A/S ZP's. They've been on there just over a year and I'll never return to the Badyears. Quieter, smoother, don't follow ruts, etc. Just my .02, but there are plenty of believers also. Happy choosing. Jerry

I just put the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP's on my 2000 coupe.

The Michelins are much better than the original Goodyears - firmer, smoother, better tracking, better feel.

This is my third Corvette ('74, '86, "00) and my first experience with non-OEM tires.

If I get a C6, I would consider doing a swap to the Michelins at the time of purchase.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP (Zero Pressure). Just switched last Thursday. Caravaned to Knoxville Corvette Expo Saturday. I will never go back to Goodyear again. Much better ride, less noise. People say you give up some handling, but how often do you push it to those limits? Plus, with the Pilot Sports, if you get caught in the rain, you have that extra insurance of not hydroplaning as easily. Good luck on your choice. Oh yea, they have built-in rim saver beads.
