Default True Engine Specs

Does anyone know if GM measures the HP & Torque for our motors at the crank or behind the tranny? In my owners manuel it states that my torque is 370 with a manuel tranny and, I think it was 350, with an Auto.

I was just curious!

Thanks!

If it is at the crank. then why would my torque differ from an auto transmission?

Because you'll lose more going thru the auto as opposed to the manual trans

I have read that the manual has a different cam profile.

The manual either has a different cam profile or a different tune in the computer...

It's torque converter loss. The only cam difference is between LS1 and the LS6.

Cams are identical. the tune is differnt. a good dyno tune on an auto can do wonders.

The A4 trans has the torque management settings to keep the torque under 350. GM did that for longevity of the trans. If you want to maximize performance, you need to run a scan log of the TM under normal, passing and max performance--both in the up shift and downshift. A good tuner will adjust the TM limits to increase the acceleration without pulling all the advance when it shifts. Beware of tuners who just want to eliminate TM altogether--setting to 650 ft lbs--without building up the trans and adding TC and shift kits. Corvettes are not to hard on the trans in stock conditions but when the engines are modified, they tend to break.
