Sounds like 'IF' it is going thru a Q every 1,300 mi, that is considered normal. But like my update stated, I checked the oil and it appears to be topped off. I'm certainly not going to add a quart just 'cause the DIC says it is low while the dipstick reads full. Which do I trust - the DIC or the dipstick ???
I’d absolutely trust the dipstick, an over filled oil pan can bend rods. My 99 has used any where from ½ to 1½ quarts per 1k mile since day one. The DIC low oil indicator will trigger when the oil level is 2 quarts down. I’ve got 120k on it now and just did the LS6 pcv mod last week while going to a LS6 intake so it’s to early yet to see if that’s helped slow down the oil consumption but when I checked in my old LS1 intake it was dripping wet with oil..

If the DIC comes on at 2 quarts low and mine is acurate, then I have a concern as that would mean I've gone thru 2 quarts in 1,300 miles. But again, the dipstick tells a different tale (And for the record, the car has 23k miles). I've often wondered how acurate the readings are from the car's info center. Sometimes I know the digital thermometer reads close to 20 degrees colder than it really is outside. All this technology is supposed to make life easier, right??
When are you checking your oil? The manuel states to wait about 5-10 minutes, after the car has been run, then check. I don't believe in this procedure. I wait until mornig, when I KNOW all oil has drained into the pan. Then you get an accurate reading every time. Just after you do an oil change, and put in the recommended 6.5 quarts in, the next day when you do this procedure you will have a baseline reading and you can go by this dipstick reading from now on. It works well for me!
