Default Using LS1 edit

Has anyone actually purchased a single LS1 edit tuning license for there vette and then been involved in the tuning of the car?

An LS1 edit tune with one of the LS1 dealers is $1000 in Australia. This is everytime you take it in for a tune. It does not get cheaper.

If I buy a license for $450 US, I can then have my own tuner do the work and from then on each time will (only?) cost me direct dyno time (~ $300).

I specifically ask people here with first hand knowledge of LS1 edit and how easy it is to use - how long does it take for an experienced tuner to pick up and become familiar with. I need a retune after a cam/head swap.

Thanks guys.

Go here read the info. Tuning Software You can get a personal license with tuning and scanning software for yourself for around half what you pay for your tuner.
It's not that hard if you hang out on the forums there and get the info you need, you will be up and running yourself in no time.
FWIW, I had my own version of LS1Edit and dropped it in a heartbeat when this came along.

I am not knowledgeable about self-tuning but after reading the efilive information about their products it seems user friendly.JER

How long will it take for someone with no tuning experience to learn how to use it? From the website information, it looks like just plug it in, it will tell what needs to be done and then will fix it by itself. This sounds too good to be true. Anyone with experience please let me know how it really works.

Thanks,

I haven't used EFILIVE but I have used Tunercat which is another somewhat inexpensive NON VIN LOCKED tuning option. It has worked great for my LS1 C5 and also for my LT1 Camaro.

I went to the Tunercat website and downloaded the instruction manual. I went over in some detail and it appears to only be able to adjust the timing. Is this correct or am I missing something. I would really like to be able to tune my car myself, but don’t have the patience for a 1 or 2 month learn time. I’m no idiot, but I’m no computer expert either. Any suggestions as to which one is the easiest one to use.

Thanks,

It's not quite able to tune itself, but it's pretty close. An experienced tuner will get you where you want to go faster, but it's more expensive. For me there is a certain freedom in knowing I can tweak this and that as I go along. Also, once you get a product like that as you use it you become more familiar with the EFI system. I find the EFILive forums to be of immense help also. I started out with LS1Edit and was a 'babe in the woods' and was able to tune my car. Now, I can't imagine owning my car and NOT having EFILive to tune it. Also, the scanner is almost more valuable than the tuner. It's great for diagnosing all kinds of ODB2 problems. It got me through inspection because I could scan my problems and tweak them until they were right. Check my sig and you'll see I'm far from stock but got it clean enough to pass.

Clayton, I have no idea why they would say that they only do timing....I'm guessing thats just a screenshot from one of the tuning windows? My version for my 1997 C5 does the MAF table, all PE tables, all ignition/spark tables, all idle tables (throttle cracker airflow, target rpm, etc), as well as part throttle VE tables, transmission changes (shift points, TQ lockup, line pressure, etc). I have adjusted fans, AFR, spark, and also turned off the rear O2's and other error messages...similar to any other tool. I feel that the app is pretty straightforward and easy to use. My only complaint is that it takes approx 6 minutes to program your ECU...not sure how quick other programs are. The nice thing about Tunercat is that you don't need any modules added to quiet down your system so you can program safely. I have heard other ones need some box added so you don't get errors.
