Not to hijack the thread, but what kind of testing has been done on FI setups like I run? Forged motor, lowered compression and can see up to 14 lbs of boost? Do those 1/4 runs or boosted runs on the street have a big impact on the Royal Purple I am using?

Thanks

This is interesting! I also sit on two diesel sites (VW and Cummins). We discuss changing oil every 10k to 20k. I also change my C5’s oil under 3k but this is more a time issue than a miles issue.

Yep!

I always let mine go to zero, then reset it again and keep going. On my last oil change I went 9000 miles. I sent the used oil for analysis and it was still in great shape, it easily could've gone another 3 or 4k, if not more. There was very low engine wear and the oil had no contamination in it either (such as fuel)

Those of you who honestly think you're prolonging your engine's life by changing it every 3k should get the oil analyzed. Then you would know you could safely go triple that amount or more and it would not hurt the engine one bit.

I do Not mind the Newbies... they come here for the knowledge....
Knowledge is what some of us have plenty of...
What I do mind are the countless post of skepticism from people who challenge my posts. and its not so much the challenge but their criticism has no basis in fact and usually comes from 1960's technology, or from someone they heard it from, or from what their grandfather did, or from some guy who knew a girl that got laid by some one who worked for a dealership.
I have dealt with areas of the C5 that I am an absolute expert on..and offer the same information over and over , year after year...
I have offered educated guesses, or contacted my GM engineering pipeline, on areas that I have no first hand data.
I welcome the same questions over and over...its what the forum is here for.
The skeptics and know it alls and wanna-be hero's are the ones that push me closer to the door.

0% on the DIC or 12 months here, which ever happens first. In my personal case the 0% always shows up first.

tested mine after 1500 track only miles. That is some hard use. I was told to go 2500 track miles. That's redlined all the time.

And the DIC takes load in rpm and mph timing into acount as per Evil-Twin, I wonder what % the DIC would be after 2500 track miles.

I think they do have an impact and I would be hesitant to use the Oil Life Monitor (OLM) in your case. I've seen reports, such as this motorcycle oil study, Motorcycle Oil Comparison (1 MB pdf file), that indicate that oils such as Royal Purple shear down fairly rapidly in high shear conditions such as might be occuring your motor. The (OLM) will not account properly for this IMO. On the track, I don't follow the OLM using AMSOIL best oils, changing my oil at what equates to about 500 miles of use.

For street use, I would follow the OLM though and I do in my wife's Chevy Trailblazer, averaging about 8,500-9,500 miles per oil change.

I forgot to write down what it was or I reset it can't remember. I track it better this year if I run it.
