Will do, I keep thinking the battery has something to do with it but the probability of having the key problem and the battery going bad at the exact same moment don't jive. And if you guys are showing 12 volts when the key is in the on position, then I need to just quit considering that as the problem. It is probably a bad lock cylinder. I overstated the miles, it is actually only 24,000. Weird.
Yeah I'd say the lock cylinder is hosed.
You could easily attempt the battery swap and see what happens but, I'd bet in the end it's the lock cylinder.
Be sure your Buddy buys the next few rounds of drinks and keep him away from the vette.
Went to the dealer lot and pulled the codes.
BCM- pass key detection circuit
BCM -loss of communication with PCM & IRC & serial data line malfunction.
Instrument Panel Cluster - loss of communication with PCM, BCM, & serial data line malfunction.
AO -LDCM- Battery #1 fault & Battery#2 fault- Same with the right door control module but also +5v reference fault and Serial data line malfunction.
Remote Function Actuation- lost comm with PCM and IPC.
So who knows, I should have cleared it and then saw what was going on but didn;t want to erase the trail for the Tech that gets to work on it.

if you disconnected the battery, that's where the communicaion faults came from.the pass key fault is probably from forcing the key in and the lock cylinder isn't reading the key and it is not moving the rack and rod far enough to pull the ignition switch to "crank".sounds like the ignition lock took a dump.
Just as we thought. The tumbler in the ignition puked, the dealer got a new one, and quick. Service was great, fast. The origianal keys still work and all is good. They even paid for the majority of the rental car( I rented a Caddy in the interim). Overall, I would rate the dealer( Bale Chevrolet) as exceptional.
So I drive up 200 miles to my parents place for the Easter gathering, next day I try to start the car and the key won't go in the ignition like something is blocking, so I jiggle and then get the key in, it turns and nothing. After i fish out what looks like a lock pin cylinder housing from the key hole i can at least get the key to switch to the ACC position to put up the windows but no ignition.
I have to be at work tomorrow and my car has a dead ignition switch in my partents driveway.
How hard is it to replace the ignition cylinder? I dont trust shady, slow to help dealers, especially that Im from out of state. I have a 2003 ANNIV 6sp convert, < 21K miles
Please Help if you can!! All info appriciated I am in a bind.
You need to let the dealer take care of it so you don;t end up having to change your keys out. My take on it anyway, I really didn;t want to have a different key for the doors and for the ignition etc. I don't know for sure but becasue of the theft system , it may be something the dealer has to do anyway. Your key has the chip on the key itself does it not?
Just a note... unpopular with most... don't be too upset with your buddy... Remember the key would not go in... So... it was already broke... He just helped you move along to a faster solution..
WOW thanks for the quick reply! It looks like we have the misfourtune of having the same crappy parts failures.
My key has the chip.
I would like to get it fixed here at the house if i can. Because I am very worried about the towing or flatbed messing up the car being so low and with only the rear exposed for hook up.
If it has to go to a dealer two questions:
1- how do you reccomend getting it there, im guessing a flatbed but i know nothing about towing a vette.
2- what did you have the dealer do exactly to the ignition cylinder to fix it. I need to know what to ask them to do so i can use my origonal key for all other locks.
I had to get a flatbed, warranty paid for the wrecker, the fix, and the rental car. If you are still in warranty call chevrolet, they will arrange the wrecker. The dealer will figure it out pretty quick. Just tell them what you have told us and they will order in the part, mine was in the next day. Your rental will be reimbursed up to 42 bucks a day. Good luck.
