Default Rev limiter problem, A4.

Ok I have a 98 with a 2800 Yank stall.

We are having Rev limiter problems, No matter where we set the limiter or shift point too, its hitting fuel cut at 6300.

Im not the tuner, but Im trying to help him find the answer. He is thinking its a possible TPS sensor either at the Throttle body, or under the pedal that is bad, thats causing it to go into a default mode.

Any ideas?

EDIT:
The tranny will shift whenever it’s programmed to.

The problem is the rev-limiter cutting fuel before the shift point can be reached.

Thanks, he said at one point they had it all set up at 7500, and it was still shifting around 6300.

Right now, with my set up, shift recovery is a huge ordeal, and with it shifting low, its killing my NA 1/4 mile times.

I believe a tuner can change the shift points. This is not the same as raising the rev limiter. When you hit the rev limiter, this just cuts the fuel flow to protect the motor. It has nothing to do with the actual shift points.

Did you change your shift MPH when you changed your shift RPM ?
If not then it will shift too low ?

You also want to check the abuse settings. Someone already mentioned that you'll need to change the fuel shut off RPM.

This is what Bo, my tuner just sent me, hes going to sign up later today, to explain better.

The codes showing are:

C1281 C $28 TCS
C1288 C $28 TCS

The shifting tables work fine, but the rev-limiters do not.
Rev limit was set to 7800 with the resume at 7700 and it still hit fuel cut at 6400.

Check out this thread, on about post 7 Linky

There are two tables, the fuel cutoff and the electronic throttle control (ETC), not sure if you have the ETC in an A4 though.

I'm tracking the thread at Tech. Probably easier than having you act as middle man

I changed the first post, I explained the problem totally wrong, Its not a shift point problem, its a fuel cut problem.

The tranny will shift whenever it’s programmed to.

The problem is the rev-limiter cutting fuel before the shift point can be reached.

I posted this on tech also. May want to look at RPM vs. Gear under ETC controls. Probably a long shot as most I've seen are set at 9000. Some Z06's have 6600 for 5th though.

I looked in my EFI-live and it doesn't show any RPM vs Gear table under the ETC controls. All there is is two predicted air-flow tables there.
There's no table itemized by gear vs RPM except for the fuel cut-off table.

Thank you. This is significant since my EFI-live doesn't show this one at all.
Two questions for you now.
Is this table for a 1998 C5?
Do you know exactly how this limiter is applied? (spark? fuel cut? ETC?)
Thank you!

I'm think all C5s have this table. Not 100% sure on how it is used, i.e. spark, fuel etc. I'll send you a PM with my email addy. If you want, send me the .bin file and I'll open it in HPT and see if the table is there.
